On October 3, 2009 the Board of Directors of the National Association of Home Builders Association ("NAHB") voted to grant Mountain to Mesa Home Builders Association ("M2M HBA") the right to operate as an independent chapter of NAHB through the Colorado Association of Home Builders ("CAHB").  This was the final step to establish a representative alignment for Pitkin and Garfield County home builder and associate members, nearly one year after the process was initiated.  As members of M2M HBA, members are automatically members of CAHB and NAHB and are entitled to the benefits of all three entitites.

How come a professional home builders association was not established before 2009?  There is a bit of history to answer that question.  The Three Rivers Home Builders Association operated from Glenwood Springs for many years until January, 2006.  When the chapter ceased operations, the Northwestern Colorado Home Builders Association ("NW HBA"), operating from Grand Junction, folded the territory under its umbrella.  Given the differing issues confronting the building industry in the Roaring Fork Valley and I70 Colorado River Valley compared to Grand Junction, it was determiend that a more representative Board should be establisehd to best serve the building community.

In late 2007, a chapter formation committee ("Formation Committee") was established to formulate a plan to create a new representative chapter.  The committee was led by CAHB State Board Director David Fiore (President, Western Peak, Inc.) and initially included members Jason Neumnan (D.M. Neuman Construction), Gina Neuman (D.M. Neuman Construction), Konnie Krahn-Prosence (Stewart Title), Susan Horning (then with America's Mortgage), Lonnie Fisher (Big John's Lumber), and Scott Williams (Harbert Lumber).  Cyndi Peters (CMP Financial) and Mary Kenyon (Real Time Marketing) joined the Formation Committee to assist in the initial launch of the chapter held on November 11, 2008.

The Formation Committee drafted the bylaws in concert with Rich Livingston, attorney for NW HBA.  The first order of business was to establish a new territory to align with regional issues confronting the geographic area from Aspen to Parachute.  On October 15, 2008, before the "initial launch", a territorial assignment was executed by NW HBA then sitting President, Steve Kesler; President-Elect Rob Griffin; CAHB State Board member David Fiore; CAHB State Executive Committee member Jeff Piper; and attorney Rich Livingston approving the form a legality of the assignment.  Until 2009, NW HBA provided administrative support during the transition as a standalone chapter.

The bylaws took into consideration the unique aspects of the area it would serve and created an 11-member board.  It was determined that to best represent the territory, each municipality should be represented by a builder/developer member.  The six-builder member appointed areas include Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt/Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle to Silt, and Rifle to the Mesa County line.  The remainging five appointments were reserved for associate members with a diversity mandate with regard to differing business sectors supporting the building industry.

The eleven member Board meets quarterly to address policy, budget matters, and issues confronting the territory with regard to governmental affairs.  Oversight of routine business matters of M2M HBA are served by an Executive Committee of the Board of Directors who meet monthly.  The M2M HBA inaugural board ("Inaugural Board") was fully seated by February 2009 and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors wwas selected by the full Board at its June 10, 2009 Board of Directors meeting.

The inaugural Executive Committee members include David Fiore (Western Peak, Inc. - Builder/Developer member for Basalt/Carbondale), President; Chad Griller (Fenton Construction - Builder member for Aspen), President-Elect; Jason Neuman (D.M. Neuman Construction - Builder member for Glenwood Springs), Vice President I70 Colorado River Corridor; Peter Martin (Peter Martin Insurance Basalt, CO - Associate member), Vice President Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valley Corridor; and Konnie Krahn-Prosence (Stewart Title - Associate member), Secretary Treasurer replacing Joe Carpenter as Secretary Treasurer.

The inaugural Board of Directors include Joe Carpenter (American National Bank - Associate member); Susan Horning (Wells Fargo Bank - associate member); Randell Johnson (Neenan Archistruction - Builder member for Snowmass); John Savage (Savage Construction - Builder member - Rifle to Mesa County line); Paul Spencer (Bonsai Development - Builder member appointed for New Castle to Silt); and Tom Stevenes (the Stevens Group - Builder member associate board appointment).

The 2010 Board, the first full year as a stand alone chapter, was voted in at the annual meeting held on December 4, 2009.  The 2010 Board maiinly included the inaugural Board, however, Shawn Binion (BookCliff Services, Inc.) replaced Jason Neuman in the first Quarter of 2010.  The bylwas provide for a nominating committee of the Board, consisting of the Executive Committee, to accept expressions of interest from members who would like to serve on the Board of Directors during each successive calendar year.  M2M HBA members who desire to serve as a future Board Director are encouraged to become active on one of the committees of M2M HBA or to help with organizational events and membership drives.  The history of M2M HBA began in 2007 but will evolve with stregnth as membership grows and members become involved.
